Firstly, the Agora bookstore would like to welcome all new students to the university of Ottawa. You’re beginning your academic careers and we want you to know we’re here to help! For all returning students, welcome back and we hope you all had a nice summer.

An eventful summer
The Agora has been going through a lot of changes recently. We just repainted inside and out, we’re launching our new website and we’re even finishing the creation of an iPhone app, which we hope will be popular and helpful. We also have a new Facebook page and we invite you to like it or follow us on twitter since we have a lot of contests lined up for the year!

Why the Agora and not the campus store?
If you’re asking yourself why you would bother to walk the 5 mins to the Agora bookstore when you can get your books on campus, well here is why:
We’re actually owned by you, yes you. We belong to the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO). Because of this, our first priority is you! We don’t price our books with the mentality of “how much money can we make” but instead “how low can we price the books and cover our operating costs”. This means that you will always pay the lowest possible price on textbooks. Some of you may have noticed that for some books we’re only a little cheaper than campus, well that is because since we opened in 1999, we caused so much competition for the campus bookstore that we actually forced them to lower their prices in order to stay competitive. So that’s a great reason to come over to see us instead of the campus stores. Also, we are constantly encouraging professors to use older editions so we can offer you more used books and cheaper alternatives. Not to mention, sometimes we have seen price differences between 10-50$ on books between us and the campus bookstore!

Don’t wait in those huge campus bookstore lines
You want to know the best reason for getting your books with us? You can sit at home, order your books online and pick them up in store! This means you don’t have to wait in line on campus or in store! You can skip the lines, come to our front desk and get your order within a matter of minutes! We regularly fill the orders which means that sometimes you can pick them up the same day! This year we are also offering on campus pick up!
